I was thinking about caging the beast being the common part. Probably a bit far-fetched relation, I agree. :)

I think Nandan's got something -- they may be related by the fact that both try to curb naturally destructive human proclivities, thus caging the beast. I would put virtual reality and world government as the inventions of the next few centuries.
